A Transformation in Old White – Before and After

thrift store shelf painted white

A quick Saturday before and after for you all!

I found this neat little shelf at the thrift store and it cost $6.00 (kind of pricey actually). I knew that just a coat of Annie Sloan Old White with distressing would make it a sweet cottage piece.

And, it did!

Gotta love those thrift store finds!  Have a great weekend, everyone! more here!

An Empire Coffee Table Gets a Fix

I found this great empire coffee table at a thrift store a few years ago.  It was not in the best shape and pretty rickety but I didn’t care.  I added a bit of glue and put it in my living room and loved it.  And then I sat on it.

Yes, I did.  Not one of my kids (in particular my 16 year old son who just happened to be walking down the stairs last week when the banister fell off the wall).  No, it was I who sat on the already shaky, old table and broke it.  This time it was not “glueable”.  It went into the depths of my garage where it stayed for a year. more here!

The Vintage Bassett China Cabinet – Before and After

It is finally done!  We have come to the end of the Vintage Bassett China Cabinet series!

The piece originally was in terrible shape with deep scratches, broken glass, missing shelves, a broken door and the back was coming off.  Not to mention it was near impossible to get home and almost gave me a heart attack when I had to drive home with it tied in string to the top of my minivan. Here is the after!
This was a true labor of love!  The piece was cleaned and sanded for a smooth finish prior to painting.  The top of the base was stripped back.  The missing piece of the door was re-adhered and the hinge fixed.  Whew! The body was painted in General Finishes Persian Blue with their Winter White glaze applied to highlight its detail.  The interior of the cabinet was painted in General Finishes Seagull Gray. more here!

The Drexel Triune Dresser – Before & After

Page title

It has taken me all week but I can now say that the Drexel Triune Dresser is done!  What a truly stunning piece.  It was transformed to create a rather rustic/glam vibe with a rustic, refinished top in a dark stain and sleek black on the body.  The original hardware is aged to perfection and sets off the piece perfectly.  I am in love! more here!

Favorite Find Monday and a Gorgeous Dresser – Finally!

I finally was able to get out of the house and hunt for treasures!  It was wonderful and I found some amazing pieces – score!  Today’ Favorite Find Monday is this fantastic dresser.   I happen to love the lines and the ribbed door fronts are a really neat touch.  When painted, they are going to really pop.  And the hardware is gorgeous and intact. The back of the dresser needs nailing back in and the top was badly burned at some point.  Just like all of my “Finds” this one will require quite a bit of work before being painted.I know it will look beautiful when all done! more here!

Whitewashed Stairs and a Foyer Makeover

While walking through our front door the other day, I tripped over yet another pair of Uggs and just couldn’t take it any longer! I’m sure most of us are tired of our entryways being covered in boots, coats, hats, scarfs, gloves and backpacks.  I spent that morning reorganizing our coat closet to create more space and cleaned out the foyer area.  While deep into my “organize/redecorate” mode, I decided to tackle our stairs.  I had previously whitewashed the treads but after a few years, the wash had worn off in places. more here!

Favorite Find Monday – A French Dresser

I have to first confess that my favorite find Monday is actually a find from a long time ago. Why am I sharing an old thrift store score today?  Because of the beauty that we awoke to this morning…Yes, more ice and snow and yet another day off for the kids.  I have not been able to get out and about and am really getting antsy!  This is how Lucky feels about the weather. more here!
