Paint Color Highlight – Annie Sloan French Linen and Old White

I am almost out of paint colors to highlight so I thought to share my favorite paint color combos!  One of my all time favorite pairings is Annie Sloan French Linen and Old White.  Old White really pops off the darker French Linen and highlights the details of a piece beautifully.

One of my favorite examples of this is the French Country Sideboard.  I painted it all in white and then a few coats of the grey on top.
Another great example is the detail on the French bombe chest.  The French Linen does not have the white underneath it and so is more true to the color.  The lighting in the photos also changed the hue slightly.  They are both French Linen (really!). more here!

The Countdown Continues – Best of 2014

Old Violet

Yesterday, I shared a few of my favorite pieces from 2014 and am continuing the countdown today!

Number 7: The Cottage Cabinet

This cabinet was left in the trash and snow at my friend’s apartment complex.  I brought it home, cleaned and shored it up.  All of the shelves inside were missing and getting new ones made was a little tricky as the cabinet is curved.  I created a template by tracing the top of the cabinet onto cardboard and then cut it down to size until the cardboard fit perfectly inside the cabinet.  I took the template and had the shelves cut at my local glass shop and they fit like a glove.  Here is where the cabinet was found and the after.  A true trash to treasure!  I used General Finishes milk paint in Millstone for a cottage look. more here!

Favorite Find Monday – A Drexel Triune Dresser

My favorite find Monday today is a doozy!  A vintage Drexel Dresser from their Triune collection.  I spotted this fantastic piece on Craigslist and my husband and I drove out to pick it up.  It is super long (75″) which also made it super heavy but we managed to get it home!  Although it’s beaten up and in desperate need of some tlc, it’s still gorgeous and the perfect candidate for a makeover!  Behind the cabinet door are a few drawers for extra storage.  I really think this piece is perfect for both the bedroom or as a dining room buffet. more here!

My “New” Burgundy Buffet

I was on my morning run last week and suddenly had the inspiration to paint my dining room buffet the deep reddish tone of the falling leaves.  The red color tones in better with the warmth of my table and china cabinet. I ran home (literally) and jumped in the car to talk to Celeste over at Catfish Studios.  She is my good friend and Annie Sloan stockist.  We played around a little and decided to take Primer Red and add a tiny bit of Burgundy to create that lovely, warm, deep red.  I also added a wash of burgundy on top of the mix as the first finish wasn’t quite deep enough without it. more here!

The Dining Room Under Construction

I have spent the weekend and yesterday working on my dining room and it’s still not ready for a reveal!  I can only say that I have stopped fighting it.  I am embracing it.  Quite the epiphany!

Today I can share a few really awful pics because the room is still in progress and my house is a total mess because of it.  I had wanted to share pics of the new and improved sideboard but it’s giving me grief and I am not yet done.  The table and chairs are next.  My kids are home today as well and that is adding to the sense of chaos!  Calgon, take me away!  That reference may make zero sense to some of you – sorry for being so old 🙂 more here!

The Midnight Sideboard

Here is the “before” of the gorgeous vintage sideboard that I just finished for a client.

She decided to go with black (a little out of the box for me) and so, with trepidation, I opened my new tin of General Finishes Lamp Black.

I have to admit – I love, love, love the black!  It makes the piece look sharp and modern and the matte finish complements the age of the piece.  What a transformation! I changed out the old pulls for some pretty glass ones to add sparkle against the black backdrop. The piece was only lightly distressed, just enough for the details to pop out against the dark finish. The Midnight Sideboard! more here!
