Paint Color Highlight – Annie Sloan French Linen and Paris Grey

Did you check out yesterday’s Inspiration Friday Link Party?  What amazing features!

On to this week’s paint color highlights!  Both greys – Annie Sloan Chalk Paint French Linen and Paris Grey.

French Linen is the perfect grey to use on any piece that you want to add depth to, or give a stately look.  It is heavy as it is so dark but can be lifted with touches of gold or white.  Since it is chalk paint, it’s easy to distress or layer to create a really aged look.  I happen to like it on larger pieces that can handle the deep hue.  It is really very beautiful.

Country Grey Dresser and Stairway Update

Before I get to the Country Grey dresser, let me share my stairway update.  I whitewashed my stairs a few years ago (Lighter Steps – A Stairway Makeover) and added a stencil onto the stair risers.  They looked great and have worked well over the past few years.  However, the wash on the treads has been wearing off and they are more than overdue for another coat of wash.  I became tired of the old look and since I needed to re-whitewash them anyway, I decided to go with something new.  A brighter blue on the risers with a new stencil.

Favorite Find Monday – A French Dresser

I have to first confess that my favorite find Monday is actually a find from a long time ago. Why am I sharing an old thrift store score today?  Because of the beauty that we awoke to this morning…Yes, more ice and snow and yet another day off for the kids.  I have not been able to get out and about and am really getting antsy!  This is how Lucky feels about the weather.

The Countdown Continues – Best of 2014

Old Violet

Yesterday, I shared a few of my favorite pieces from 2014 and am continuing the countdown today!

Number 7: The Cottage Cabinet

This cabinet was left in the trash and snow at my friend’s apartment complex.  I brought it home, cleaned and shored it up.  All of the shelves inside were missing and getting new ones made was a little tricky as the cabinet is curved.  I created a template by tracing the top of the cabinet onto cardboard and then cut it down to size until the cardboard fit perfectly inside the cabinet.  I took the template and had the shelves cut at my local glass shop and they fit like a glove.  Here is where the cabinet was found and the after.  A true trash to treasure!  I used General Finishes milk paint in Millstone for a cottage look.

A French Dresser in Coco with a Wash & A Last Chance on the Giveaway!

I’m trying to fit a lot into this post today, everyone!  First of all, the Happy Holidays Giveaway has less than seven hours left!  If you haven’t entered, then now is the time!  I will write a quick post tomorrow to announce the winner!

I also finished up the gorgeous and lovely, curvy legged french dresser (Favorite Find Monday and French Finds).  I happen to love this piece and am so happy with a new chalk paint combo that now counts as one of my all time favorites.  I used two coats of Annie Sloan Coco as a base and a wash of Country Grey.  I then sanded it back softly to create a smooth finish and applied a clear wax to seal the piece.  The original drawer pulls complement the finish and I love them on this piece.

Old Violet Love

I purchased this lovely dresser from a woman who was downsizing and needed to sell a few large pieces.  It was originally her grandmothers and is likely from the 1930’s.  What a gorgeous piece – dovetail drawers, beautiful hardware, curves galore and solid wood all around.  Just lovely.
