I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter or Passover! We had a great day with a dinner of baked ham, potatoes, asparagus, cornbread casserole and apple crumble for dessert – yum! Today is the last day of spring break. Ella passed her lifeguard training and my son finished his driver’s ed so it was quite a productive week!
Today was the first day of spring break for my kids. I have one in driver’s ed class for the week and one is taking lifeguard training to become a summer lifeguard at our pool. That leaves my youngest home with me and we are having a “stay-cation”. We are going downtown to the National Gallery of Art, shopping at the mall, going out to lunch for Pad Thai and also taking in a Nats game 🙂
I know – what a strange title I have to this post! However, it is very apt description.
I went to the thrift store last week and found a pair of fantastic lamps. They have the most interesting, wooden shades and pretty tassels.
I grabbed them, brought them home and put them down in my living room. I was planning on cleaning them up and plugging them in later on in the day.
I had the good luck of stumbling upon this fantastic sideboard the other day. It is gorgeous! The rounded shape on the top, the way the bottom drawer is slightly recessed and the fluted legs. All gorgeous! Of course, the piece needs a lot of work. In particular, the top is in really bad shape. Here are a few pics.
It’s good to be back! I have some bits and pieces to share on today’s Favorite Find Monday. I found them all randomly last month and just now am having the chance to post.
First up is this console table. It was on top of a bunch of old junk in a thrift store. Solid wood and all the pieces are there. I believe it was around $15 so I good deal! It will be a fun project to work on and see it literally come together!
I picked this dresser up yesterday and I’m thrilled with it. It is in very bad shape with a lot of damage to the surface but the actual bones of the piece are in excellent shape. Solid wood with dovetailed construction and beautiful original hardware. The front is bowed and has lovely detail. Such a pretty piece! I also picked up a console table in pieces and two outdoor furniture lounge chair cushions. A good day!
I found this really pretty dresser last week. It has an odd original finish that is basically a yellow crackle finish. I’m going to use the existing texture and see what happens. The piece has great detail and is in excellent shape. The drawers are keyhole and incredibly it actually has the key taped inside the top drawer. I know this one will be a stunner!
Today’s Favorite Find Monday is a bare bones, straight lined farmhouse dresser. It’s width is very deep, which makes for great storage. The piece is solid wood – each drawer weighs a ton! The top two drawers have a keyhole and all of the drawers open and close easily. Holes were drilled into the top where its mirror once stood but other than that, it just has the typical wear and tear.
I was out thrifting last week and picked up this little gem. It’s a vintage bar cart and works perfectly. The sides lift up easily and lock into place. The wheels work smoothly. I know it looks pretty bad now but I plan on giving it a makeover. I’ll share soon!
We had Ella’s Sweet 16 Party on Saturday and it was a huge success! We had a ton of family and friends and she had a wonderful evening. I’m spending the day today getting my house organized and clean 🙂 Have a great Monday!

For those of you in the US, I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I spent it with family and had 26 over for a huge Thanksgiving dinner. It was a ton of work but I am pleased to say that it turned out really well. I feel that all of the prep and planning really paid off this year. My turkey was a big success and we all had a fantastic time. The only downside was that the Redskins lost but hey, we are used to that around here 😉
