Boring Chair, Farmhouse Flair and Mirror Before and After

blue farmhouse chair

Here is a fun post to share about a boring chair, farmhouse flair and a vintage mirror.

Let’s start with the boring chair.  I think we all have seen (or owned) these kitchen chairs in our lifetime.

My neighbor and client, Karen had a full set.  She was, understandably, tired of them.  She gave the chairs to charity but kept one to use for her desk and had me paint it.  We chose a deep blue – Annie Sloan Aubusson.

Charlotte’s Broyhill Bedroom Set – Before and After

Vintage Broyhill Bedroom Set in Annie Sloan Old Ochre and Old White

I’m done with Charlotte’s Broyhill bedroom set!  Yippee!  This was a big project and well worth the effort.  The set is sturdy and solid and was the perfect candidate to update with paint.  In this case, it was Annie Sloan chalk paint in a mix of Old Ochre and Old White that gave it cottage charm.

Color Options in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

How to Blend Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

I have been working on a project for a client and creating color options for her to choose from.  I am painting her new bathroom vanity to resemble an older piece that I shared in Creating Sample Boards. A Shabby Shelf in Old Ochre and Chairs Everywhere

A super easy and quick paint project was this great little shelf I found at a thrift store.  A quick wash of chalk paint in Annie Sloan Old Ochre gave it some style. A wash really maintains the look of the wood underneath while making the detail pop.

This video was made a few weeks ago.  It’s on my YouTube channel and shows how to add a wash of chalk paint over an existing coat.  The same technique was used on the shelf above, except that the wash was added directly onto the raw wood.  I then took a rag and wiped it off to create the look above.

Persian Blue Table

I feel that lately I have been sharing very labor intensive projects with you all.  Projects that take a lot of time and effort to complete.  Today we are preparing for a huge snowstorm to hit later this afternoon in the DC area.  Record Breaking!  Historic!  Oh, my.  I won’t be out in my garage for at least a week and plan on working inside in my workroom.  I don’t sand in my workroom as my daughter has asthma and I can’t have the dust in our home.  There are smaller projects that are simple to do indoors.  Sometimes, the easy ones turn out the best!  Here are a few of my easy paint projects!

Vintage Chair in Creamy White + Quick Tip Video Tutorial

Remember the lovely vintage chairs I shared on Monday? I finished the first one and am sharing today. The paint is Annie Sloan Old White, followed by a wash of Annie Sloan Old Ochre (tutorial at bottom of post), followed by yet another light coat of Old White on parts of the chair. I distressed it back and added gold highlights before sealing it in Annie Sloan clear wax.  Remember they are being re-upholstered so I didn’t need to keep the fabric clean 🙂
