Paint Colors Archives - The Painted Drawer

Annie Sloan Color Galleries

I am very close to finishing the Pure White dresser.  It has taken four coats to cover, which is the issue with any Pure White.  It looks so good and I’ll share soon ?

I also have been really busy creating more sample boards for my customers.  Each board takes a few coats and then wax.  I plan on doing more with a wash or dark wax applied to show more options.  They are time consuming but well worth it.Sample Boards

I think you can see that my workroom is a bit of a mess!  I have finished the Pure White dresser drawers and took a pic to add to the Annie Sloan Color Gallery.  I’ve attached it plus the Annie Sloan Color Mix Gallery. Enjoy!

My Home’s Color Scheme

My Home’s Color Scheme  I understand that my posts may be slightly tiring at this point as they are all on my own home but that is what I’ve been up to lately! Today I spent the day repainting my hallway and I had my kitchen ceiling patched and painted.  I feel that my taste has changed from my white and light cottage vibe that I have had for years to a more sophisticated and deeper color palette.

Here is a collage of the colors I have used in my home: Sherwin Williams Poised Taupe, Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige, Sherwin Williams Rainstorm, Benjamin Moore Guilford Green and Benjamin Moore Cloud White. My Color Scheme Collage

My foyer is in Poised Taupe. To the right is my living room in Accessible Beige and now to the left is my hallway in Accessible Beige. Having the same color on either side of the foyer looks very cohesive. The hallway leads into the Guilford Green family room which leads into the Accessible Beige/Cloud White kitchen and from there through into the Rainstorm/Cloud White dining room.poised taupe foyer

Here are a few more pics from today’s hallway project. I added a vintage mirror that I purchased from the thrift store.  My thrift store rug was kind of destroyed by our puppy, Harper and I put a real Persian runner in its place.  He is better now and hopefully this one will survive!Accessible Beige HallwayAccessible Beige HallwayAccessible Beige Hallway

We need to bring the hardwood floor through the hallway and knock part of the wall down between the kitchen and the family room.  Honestly, it is never done!

Paint Color Highlights

Paint Color Highlights are a compilation of a collection of posts on different paint colors/combinations in both Annie Sloan and General Finishes paints.  Each post goes into a little detail on each paint color.  The series is easy to view with captions on which paints and colors were highlighted that week.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Color Series

Annie Sloan Provence

Provence with Wash of Old White

I’ve been busy working on my new (and hopefully improved) website. There is now a tab up top, “Paint Color Gallery”.  Here you can find the first of a series that I am doing on the paint colors that I use for my projects. I started with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Basic Colors and added another tab that includes some lovely Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Color Combinations. I really hope you like the new pages. I’m about to embark on General Finishes milk paint colors next.CONTINUE READING

Vintage Chest in Black Reveal & General Finishes Chalk Style Paint Full Review

What isn’t to love about classic black?  Honestly, I didn’t use a lot of black when I started my business almost four years ago.  I have always been a more lighter and brighter kind of girl with a true love of any hue of blue.  This was until I painted my first piece in General Finishes Milk Paint in Lamp Black.  It was a old sideboard and I was astounded that a few coats of black could turn a very vintage piece into true glam.black

This week, I was lucky enough to try General Finish’s new chalk paint line.  I mixed half part Pepper Black to half part Empire Gray and created a gorgeous deep gray/almost black hue.  While drying, I dabbed the black onto my brush to basically streak it over the deep gray.  I only lightly brushed over the detailed sides to highlight the design and then used 220 grit sandpaper to distress it. The whole piece was easily sealed in General Finishes Flat Over Flat topcoat.  I used a simple sponge brush to apply it – nice 🙂  The top was left in its perfect shape with its gorgeous striations.

The difference between this chalk style paint and my other favorite, Annie Sloan are minimal but there are a few.  I find Annie Sloan slightly easier to distress.  I also feel that the Annie Sloan wax (while tedious to apply) does give a piece more of an aged look versus the GF topcoat.  It depends on the look you are going for on what sealer to use.  The GF sealer is a liquid and needs to be evenly brushed over the piece or it can give a cloudy look where it settles unevenly.  Believe me though, brushing on a sealer as opposed to waxing a piece is a whole lot easier on your arm!

I am a fan of both types of chalk style paint and both types of sealers.  I love that there are now even more options and plan to mix both types with each other to create more interesting colors.  I also enjoy having a choice of sealer to use.  A win-win!

I must add a pic of my Christmas angel.  My girls found him broken in the trash at the Lucketts holiday market a few years ago when I had a space there.  He has lost part of his wing and you can still see the split where I glued him back together.  He also lost his trumpet somewhere along the way but he reminds me of that weekend I spent with my girls at Lucketts and I love him ♥

General Finishes Somerset Gold Before and Afters

I know you all enjoy a fun before and after and thought to share a couple of fun makeovers that I did in General Finishes Somerset Gold.  I love this color!  It is perfect for a farmhouse or french country look, depending on the piece.  It pairs really well with a golden hued wooden top and both blue and white highlights always look fabulous with it.  If you are looking for a yellow that isn’t too buttery and has depth, this is it!

Paint Color Highlight – Annie Sloan Provence

Before today’s paint color highlight, did you see the great features from The Inspiration Link Party?  Wowza!  Link up your latest and greatest here!

On to my favorite Annie Sloan color, Provence.  It is hard to describe.  Depending on the light and finish, it changes from a deeper blue to a brighter blue to an almost bluish/greenish color, as you can see from all the pictures below.

Series – Paint Colors: Chalk Paint with a Wash

I receive many questions on the type of paint and colors that I use on my pieces.  I am creating a Paint Color Series to help.  The first post of the series highlighted my projects completed in  Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and the second, General Finishes Milk Paint.  Today I will show you my Chalk Paint with Color Wash projects and the color combination used.
